A guide for exhibitors wanting to enter a cavy in the pet section. section.
Prepare the cavy the day/night before the show, that way you will be ready to go the following morning!
The first requirements are that all cavies must be a minimum of 3 months of age to be shown. They must also be in good health. Do not enter your cavy if you think she is pregnant, feeding babies or if he/she has significant hair loss or mites.
To prepare you cavy you must:
Pet Cavies are judged in four main sections:
Small Condition Boar (Under 23 cm in length)
Small Condition Sow (Under 23 cm in length)
Large Condition Boar (Over 23 cm in length)
Large Condition Sow (Over 23 cm in length)
Cavies are shown on carpet mats, which must be clean. The size of these mats are 25cm wide x 35 cm long.
When you arrive on the day, to receive your entries, there will be attached some small sticky dots with numbers on them. These dots are to be attached to your cavy's left ear. These numbers will be called, when it is time to judge your class.
If you are not a member of the club, a pet/condition entry form can be filled out on the day. Non member pet cavies are allowed to be shown twice before having to become a member of the club.
There are ribbons to win in all classes. The exhibitor who received a 1st from each section will be asked back to the table and will be in the running for Best Condition (Pet) Cavy in show.
CCV would like to advise exhibitors to bring their own table to the show. Chairs are available at the hall.

To prepare you cavy you must:
- Trim it's nails (using normal human clippers).
- Clean it's feet (with a toothbrush).
- Remove loose coat (use your hands or a gentle brush). This is called 'grooming'. To groom a cavy, the guard hairs must be removed. If you take the coat between your fingers length ways, the 'guard' hairs are the hairs that are longer than the normal coat.
- And give them a warm bath in a pet safe shampoo. (Make sure there mouth and eyes don't come in contact with water.)
